Month of May…

Where did the time go? Time flies really fast, before we knew it we would be celebrating the new year again. Am I updating? Ho boy…I am. Himala? Walang himala. Well, maybe part of my good mood has to do with the fact that I am going home to PH this coming end of the month. Yesss….I am excited. Wanna go with me? Tara!

Cake! Got an early mother’s day treat last night. Of course, I’d love to share it to everyone esp for us mothers and mother-to-be’s.

I am on my no-sweets diet but I could not resist the tempting chocolate cake with strawberries.  Guilty indulgence, I would go on my cut down tomorrow pwamis (words came out from my nose) :D

HAPPY MOM’S DAY!!  :)

It’s Ghee’s birthday!

Happy birthday dearie, I couldn’t think of anything to give on your birthday…thanks for being there always  in times of laughter and in tears naks ah, ang drama ko. Here, I made a sketch of your beautiful face last night. I hope you like it, please grab it!

And here’s another present for you;

My Best Birthday Ever

A Kiss For You!!

On birthdays? Everyone have it and each person reacts differently. I have had many birthday events that had significant impact in my life but it didn’t touches me apparently. I was given a party during my 7th year, that I don’t remember much of the happenings, a simple debut party when I am finally sending-off my puberty years. In between and the rest? For me, it was just a matter of tradition. I know I may sound weird and like but literally I am not a birthday person however, I do appreciate every effort my parents did. *thanks po, saan man kayo*

Gone are those days. If you still remember my post here; I lost my dear brother when he was only 20 years old, much too young to die. That time he was living with his dream of becoming a good dentist but was not given a chance to live with it further. It wores me down emotionally.

My 21st birthday was the memorable one, might not be the best either, because that was the time when I appreciate life more than ever…that every birthday is worth to celebrate for.

The feeling grows more passionately when I already had a family of my own that I would not basically waste a year of my life. Ganoon pala ang feeling kapag may anak ka na.

My birthday is on June, and everytime I blow out my candles…I always thanked and wish for more. Even reaching my 60th or 70th birthday, it’s a blessing because some of us would not know if we’ll even make that far.

It would always be a reason to celebrate with laughter and excitement that I have to look forward to in my life.

Fitting in

Last weekend was marked as the beginning of Spring festival which also called as chinese lunar new year by the locals here. It is their most important traditional holidays comparable to our christmas.

People celebrated it for 7 days including weekend so we had a long break from work. *Sarap*

The -12 temperature is not a hindrance to the intoxicating festive mood of the people. Just having a cold winter, maybe they are so excited to welcome a new spring. When spring festival comes, spring comes as well.

So when they prepare foods to feast…I also prepared ours hehe…

I couldn’t find tikoy in this part of China, mabuti pa nga sa pinas during chinese new year you could find tikoy in all supermarkets, dito wala talaga, so I cooked arroz valenciana as an auspicious food for the family to stick together, oha!! ha? Lol! I always prepare foods during chinese new year even when I was in PH. Nothing to lose ‘right? Instead you would gain something like…extra lbs lol!

Arroz valenciana..

Pancit  for a long life….

Some sweets….and fruits. (No pic?)

Around 7:00 pm the deafening sounds of firecrackers and fireworks had started to fill the air. After chatting with Ghee, *thanks gurl*. I enjoyed watching it from the balcony I didn’t open the window because it’s really freezing cold. Hindi ko nga alam kung saan ko itutok ang camera kasi kabilaan ang fireworks. It’s beautiful.

When the clock strikes at 12 midnight, there’s more…I didn’t take pictures anymore. I went to bed but never hope of getting some sleep. *ang ingay kaya* it lasted for 3 days because traditionally people compete with each other by playing with firecrackers. In fact up to this time nagpuputukan pa rin.

Gong xi fa cai, Kong hei fat choi, xinnian kuaile, guonian hao, happy new year…whatever form of greetings we used the meaning are all the same. Wishing everyone a prosperous year ahead of us.

Festival…

Morning time, I heard beating of drums outside and heard people roaring and laughing…the lazy me didn’t manage to go out. It’s still cold outside, I thought the temp would be better but duh…it drops into (-)4 brrr!

People were celebrating the lantern festival, me and hub went out @ around six p.m. here are some snapshots I got while on our way to the supermarket.

Traditionally, people will eat “Yunxiao” or “Tuanyuan”  or rice dumpling on this day, it is made of glutinous rice flour with bean paste, or walnut, or dried fruits filling. Chinese eat them to denote reunion, harmony and happiness for the family. I also bought some and tried, it’s the same as our “bilo bilo” in pinas except for the fillings. ya know, I do what Romans do…try lah! :D

What’s more? Feel ko nasa giyera ako (I’m at war zone)  because of fireworks everywhere. People here become really intoxicated by imposing fireworks and bright moon in the sky. I’m scared of firecrackers so it was taken from our window.

KABOOOOM! *#%!~$*#!

Have a great week ahead of us. :)
